It's hard to pinpoint a moment where I decided that I was going to devote my life to a creative pursuit. Age 8, maybe? Seems about right. I drew a picture of a pirate ship in my third grade art class and it was a total hit. It's amazing how a few kind words and encouragement from your peers and teachers can propel an entire future.
From that pirate ship on, I was hooked on creating. I was devoted to drawing from a young age all the way up through high school. I spent countless hours obsessing over Sailor Moon and learning how to draw basic forms and understand simple perspective. Apparently it paid off because along with my friends Drew VanderVeen and Jesse Kidwell, I was voted "most artsy" in my senior class of High School.
I went on to pursue a higher education in illustration (seemed appropriate) in 2006 at College for Creative Studies. While studying to obtain my BFA, I met a close group of friends who changed my life and my perspective on hard work. I can't thank them enough for encouraging me to work hard and follow my dreams. I even met my crazy talented husband Cody there.
These days, Cody and I spend our time here in the metro Detroit area working (mostly) from home alongside our two awesome puppies, Fievel and Dakota. We like to travel a lot in our spare time, which really helps inspire new artwork for the both of us.
WHAT I DO
I create hand lettering, modern calligraphy, and type heavy illustrations. My services are highly specialized, which means when you hire me to illustrate type for you, you're hiring someone who devotes their profession to just that; someone who takes pride in the small details of each letter and knows how to really evoke emotion with word aesthetic. I'm a self professed freelancer which means I happily get to work with a wide variety of clients ranging from commercial to editorial. A few of my clients include The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, Disney, Weight Watchers, Nike, Martha Stewart, West Elm, Tiffany & Co., Cole Haan, Target, Bush's Best, Consumer Reports, Ford, The Everygirl, Walter Foster, Headline Publishing, Everyday with Rachael Ray, and Hemisphere Magazine.
