AFL Legend Tony Modra Hospitalized After Serious Truck Accident Near Adelaide

AFL great Tony Modra in critical condition after truck crash near Adelaide

Tony Modra’s wife has expressed her gratitude to the two first responders who provided immediate assistance following a truck accident involving the AFL icon.

Currently, Modra is in a critical yet stable condition at an Adelaide hospital, suffering from head injuries incurred during an incident on his cattle property on Thursday afternoon.

The former star player of Adelaide and Fremantle was reportedly injured when a tree branch crashed through the truck’s windshield while he was driving.

Erica Modra conveyed her appreciation for the first responders, Sarah and Anthony, who were among the first to arrive at the scene of the accident in Back Valley, situated approximately 90 kilometers south of Adelaide.

Mark Ricciuto, a former captain of the Crows and a close friend of Modra, shared messages from Erica on his Triple M breakfast show on Friday. He stated, “She just wants to say a very big thank you to the first responders, called Sarah and Anthony, who saved his life and helped talk through to Erica while things were going down,”

He added, “She said he’s going all right. It’s pretty amazing that he’s got through it.”

Modra has been residing on a beef and cattle farm in Waitpinga, south of Adelaide, since 2003. The 57-year-old gained prominence in the AFL with Adelaide, distinguished for his remarkable high marking and prolific goal-scoring abilities while playing for the Crows from 1992 to 1998.

He later joined Fremantle, where he played for three seasons alongside the current Dockers coach, Justin Longmuir.

Longmuir remarked after Fremantle’s victory over Geelong on Thursday night, “He’s obviously a big part of the Freo family and all I can say is I wish him and his family well,”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and opposition leader Ashton Hurn both referred to Modra as an “Hopefully, he can pull through. I’m thinking of him. We’re all thinking of him and his family.” of the state. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks emphasized Modra’s significant influence on the sport and the Crows, stating, “There’s certain people that have an aura about them and Tony is one of those,”

Nicks further noted, “When you think about the Adelaide Crows, Tony’s name is one that comes to mind. “He’s an entertainer. We all have different roles at a football club, his role was to entertain.” He remarked that he had not encountered anyone with a comparable level of popularity as Modra.

“The profile he had, I don’t think it changed him at all,” Nicks commented. “It’s not the character that he is; he’s a country boy through and through. “Our prayers are there, our thoughts, everything we can possibly do – which is not much at the moment – is there for him. We just hope he fights through this one.”
