Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn, made a significant appearance at the first Big Freeze event since the passing of AFL legend and motor neurone disease (MND) advocate Neale Daniher. Mostyn honored Daniher’s legacy by wearing a split Essendon-Melbourne jersey paired with a Demons cap as he took the plunge at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), in front of a crowd of tens of thousands donned in blue MND beanies.
During the event, Mostyn expressed that if more individuals embodied the spirit of Daniher, Australia would be “unstoppable” and foster a more compassionate, community-oriented society. This annual fundraiser supports the FightMND charity, an organization established by Daniher following his diagnosis with MND thirteen years ago.
