Players of the Sydney Swans are reportedly involved in an incident in Melbourne on Sunday night, prompting a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault.
On Monday morning, law enforcement was present at the Pullman Hotel, where the Swans were lodged following their victory over Essendon the previous day.
Police Investigation Details
A spokesperson for Victoria Police stated, “Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault in East Melbourne on 17 August,” noting that the reported incident took place within the hotel during the early hours. “The exact circumstances are yet to be established and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.” the spokesperson added.
Club and AFL Response
The Sydney Swans confirmed that “several players were involved in an alleged incident in Melbourne last night” The club also stated, “The Swans have notified the AFL and relevant authorities and cannot provide further comment at this stage.” The AFL has been informed of the situation and is awaiting police inquiries.
The Swans indicated that a statement would be issued by CEO Matthew Pavlich on Monday afternoon.
