Sydney Swans suspend players amid sexual assault investigation

Five Sydney Swans players linked to alleged sexual assault investigation stood down for rest of AFL season

The Sydney Swans have announced the suspension of players Riley Bice, Nick Blakey, Isaac Heeney, James Jordon, and Chad Warner for the remainder of the current AFL season.

This decision follows an allegation of sexual assault reported on Monday at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne.

While none of the players have been arrested or charged, they are currently involved in a police investigation regarding the alleged incident.

Club’s Response and Investigation

On Wednesday morning, the Swans released a statement following a board meeting held the previous evening. “We respect there is an ongoing investigation by Victoria Police and the actions we have taken today are independent of this,” the statement read.

The club added that the AFL has expressed support for the sanctions imposed on the players.

On Tuesday, the Swans stated that they believed the players had committed a “in serious breach of expected club behaviour and standards” and assured that they would take “firm action.”
